Don't Worry About A Thing

Over the past week, Todd and I partook in a few fun activities.   The first, was a Champions League match up in Amsterdam.  The Champions League consists of the best teams on Europe (teams have to qualify in order to be a part of the league). Our hometown team, PSV, missed qualifying for this league by a narrow margin, which was a bummer.  So the match we saw was between Ajax Amsterdam and Celtic FC from Scotland.  Our friend, Evert, is a season ticket holder for Ajax matches and was able to get us tickets to this match.

Having only ever been to PSV matches before, a Champions League match upped the ante a bit.  The fans in the arena were insane.  Even before we entered the stadium, we were startled by hooligans (the official name for the most intense fans) lighting off fireworks (very loud ones) as we were getting off of the tram.  Inside the stadium, the atmosphere was electric, with everyone cheering the same cheers and singing songs in unison.  Todd captured this video of a particularly hilarious sing-a-long during the match.

It was fun to be at a big match like this, I have never experienced anything like it!  These people really love their football.

This weekend we attended a friend's birthday party on Friday (Happy Birthday, Diana!) and then checked out this year's GLOW on Saturday.  As I blogged last year, GLOW is an event in Eindhoven where artists, designers, and architects create installations using light around the city.  We didn't take a ton of photos, since it was raining the whole time we were out, but here's a few:

Our favorite part of GLOW this year, was the show in Philips Stadium.  It was an intricate light show all throughout the stadium.

As you walk around the city checking everything out, there are lots of vendors selling warm drinks.  This one was my favorite because you had to step up to reach the high window. Pretty cute.

I wish we could have had better weather for walking around, but it's definitely an impressive event regardless of how wet you become in the process.  I love that Eindhoven has so many cool events like this going on throughout the year.  Makes me proud!

Next weekend we're off and traveling again, this time to Madrid.  You know I'll be back with los detalles next week!
